Royal Philips has announced its most significant product overhaul in over a decade, introducing two new electric toothbrush ranges, a completely re-engineered motor platform, and a sweeping brand refresh under the new campaign tagline "Feel the Care." The announcements signal a strategic pivot for the Sonicare line — away from clinical utility messaging and toward oral care as a daily wellness ritual.

A New Drivetrain, a Decade in the Making

The centerpiece of the launch is what Philips calls Next-Generation Sonicare technology — a fully redesigned motor system that the company says represents the first major drivetrain upgrade since the original Sonicare platform was established. The new adaptive magnetic motor is being rolled out across the 5700 through 7300 Series models and is engineered to maintain consistent bristle performance regardless of pressure or brush angle, two variables that have long undermined real-world brushing effectiveness.

According to Philips, the updated system delivers up to 62,000 bristle movements per minute and responds in real time when users apply excess pressure or reach posterior teeth — areas where bristle velocity typically drops. The company claims the 5700 and above models gently remove up to 1,000% more plaque in hard-to-reach areas compared to a manual toothbrush at six weeks, with the flagship 7300 Series claiming up to 2,000% greater plaque removal.

Whether these figures hold up to independent scrutiny remains a subject of ongoing interest in the dental research community, but they align with a body of published evidence supporting power toothbrushes over manual alternatives for plaque reduction and gingival health.

The New Lineup at a Glance

Philips has restructured its product architecture into a clear staircase of features and price points:

The 5000 Series ($59.99) is the entry-level offering, positioned for patients transitioning from manual brushing. It does not include the next-generation motor but does feature a 14-session gradual power ramp-up designed to ease new users into powered brushing. Importantly, it brings Sonicare performance to a more accessible price point, with exclusive availability at Walmart and Target.

The 5700 Series ($79.99) and 5900 Series ($89.99) introduce the new drivetrain with two brushing modes, three intensities, and haptic pressure sensing — a practical clinical feature for patients prone to abrasive brushing.

The 6000 through 6700 Series ($89.99–$159.99) layer in visual pressure sensors, app connectivity, additional modes, and progressively more premium brush heads including the G3 Premium Gum Care head. The 6400 and above models add Sonicare app integration for brushing analytics.

The 7100 and 7300 Series ($159.99–$199.99) represent the premium tier, offering four brushing modes, app-guided coaching, and charging travel cases. The 7300 ships with three A3 All-in-One brush heads and claims the most aggressive plaque removal figures of any model in the lineup.

"Feel the Care" Brand Repositioning

Alongside the hardware refresh, Philips has overhauled its brand expression for the first time in years. The "Feel the Care" platform is built around what the company calls the "Sonicare Feeling" — the post-brushing sensation that the brand is attempting to position as a meaningful self-care moment rather than a clinical chore.

The creative shift emphasizes warmth, sensory texture, and personal identity over technical specifications. Packaging has been redesigned with 100% recyclable materials made from 50% recycled content, and the full brush head range is now manufactured using 70% bio-based plastic — an allocated figure based on mass balance accounting.

"We look after our health and well-being more intentionally than ever, yet oral care is still one of the few daily routines people rarely rethink," said Matina Vidalis, Regional Business Unit Leader, Oral Healthcare, Philips North America. The positioning mirrors broader consumer health trends toward intentional wellness and is likely aimed at winning shelf space in the minds of patients who currently see brushing as obligatory rather than rewarding.

Clinical and Practice Considerations

For dental professionals, the most noteworthy developments may be the democratization of features previously locked behind premium price points. Pressure sensing — a clinically significant feature for managing gingival recession and enamel wear in high-pressure brushers — now appears as low as the 5700 Series at $79.99.

The graduated onboarding feature in the 5000 Series also reflects an understanding of a real clinical barrier: patients who find powered toothbrushes uncomfortable are more likely to abandon them. A 14-session ramp-up could improve long-term adoption rates in practices recommending Sonicare to manual-brush users.

Philips remains the number-one dental professional-recommended sonic toothbrush brand globally, according to the company's own figures, which gives its product recommendations weight in the context of patient chair-side conversations.

Availability

The new lineup is now rolling out nationally. The 5000 and 5700 Series launched in February 2026 through Walmart, Target, and pharmacy chains. The 5900 and 7300 are currently Amazon-exclusive. The 6000 through 7100 Series are available at major retailers nationwide.
